Val is the owner/curator of two galleries in Hay. She opened her first gallery, The Table, in 2016 and six years later she opened & The Chair just up the road opposite Hay Castle. Val has always collected art and it is this ‘eye’ coupled with her strong aesthetic that has enabled her to create two such beautiful curated exhibition spaces.

Jess began working with Val in March 2022 when The Chair first opened. Indeed Val asked her to join before even deciding to take on the lease. With her background in graphic design, and her own artistic practice, Jess is perfectly placed to manage the day to day running of The Chair and if you can’t find her then she’s probably in her studio on the top floor.
