Frequently asked questions.
Can anyone apply?
Yes. It does not matter if you have never shown your work before. Solo shows are preferred but sharing the space with up to two other artists is acceptable. Maybe you are an artist who already shows with a gallery but you are looking to have a studio sale. Maybe you are an online gallery curator and looking to have a physical presence once a year. Websites and IG are useful tools for us when gauging selection but definitely not lengthy essays!
What about if I don’t have a website or Instagram?
This is a proposal based on those artists and curators who are ‘public facing’ and already have an online presence with active marketing but just lack a physical presence in the High Street. I am not sure the scheme would be of benefit without an online showing but I can always advise and support you on setting up these tools moving forward.
Can I book the gallery for more than one week?
Yes. It is a minimum of one week from 10am on Monday morning to 5pm on Sunday evening but you can add extra weeks if they are available.
As a curator hiring the space does Val get involved with artist selection?
Yes. As there is no benefit to me or to you if your artist selection is wildly inappropriate to the artistic ethos of The Chair.
May I hold a Private View?
Yes. Your opening hours are at your discretion, including when to hold a Private View, and should you require it we can supply glasses and staff.
Do I need to invigilate?
Yes. Indeed my clients often want to meet the artist when buying work, so with a few Do’s and Don’ts from me on the selling process, this should be a win/win!
Can I stay at The Chair?
No. However you can stay above my other gallery at The Atelier, a self catering apartment which sleeps two, and provided you are there for the week I can offer you a special rate for artists.
