Isobel Craggs Alferoff

  • The Chair 10 High Town Hereford, Wales, HR3 5AE United Kingdom (map)

Having recently graduated from the painting course at the University of Brighton, Isobel’s work is fascinated with the natural landscape and the human form. The setting in which the paintings are constructed is based on the artist’s upbringing living rurally on the border of Wales. With oil pastels they hash in the composition, constructed either from pictures of their childhood garden or from the backgrounds of pre-Raphaelite paintings.

Working in thin, turpentine heavy washes of oils to begin with, mixed with damar and linseed, the work is attempting to capture a specific feeling from childhood. An overbearing and bright warmth, sun on the back of your neck in the middle of July, sat on the bank of a river or submerged within its depths. Light is atmospheric, poses are pre-Raphaelite, figures are part-landscape, part-human, part-crab.
