The majority of people never get the opportunity to have their art displayed in an exhibition; so what we will be doing at The Chair this summer is offering people in Hay the possibility of creating and showing sketches and paintings of the town in a pop-up community space. You don’t have to be able to draw or paint to create images of the environs; the joy of being an artist is that we each see the world in a unique way and we want you to show us how you see Hay by making art to display on the walls of The Chair.
Working in collaboration with the local stationery emporium Bartrums, there are two opportunities to take part:
create a postcard of Hay using pens, pencils, watercolour, or whatever suits your style and enter a competition to have your art printed on postcards
Make an ink sketch of that which you feel shouts ‘HAY!’ and have the opportunity to be the next image on the front of the latest Bartum’s sketchbook
Stef Thelwell, a member of the newly formed Hay Urban Sketchers, is taking the lead and two other local artists, Elena Underhill and Laura Bird-Smith, will be on site to support you. All materials and sketchbooks will be available and may be purchased just down the road at Bartrums.
